Urotsukidoji II: The Legend Of The Demon Womb - by Liam R Directed by Hideki Takayama. Based on the manga series created by Toshio Maeda. Published by Manga Entertainment. Certificate 18. As with the last review here’s your ‘doing it for my conscience if nothing else’ warning: the film deals with adult themes which could be considered sexual but are in fact quite depraved and horrific in some cases. If you are under 16 years old, I seriously consider turning back and going somewhere else for your perverted desires. If you are older than that, well it’s your own fault for reading this. Also before we get going, I did some research for my old GeoCities page and this review in particular. For those who actually care, the top phrases which were typed into google and referred to the review were: ‘camel toe gynastics’ (sic) and ‘raped him vaginally’. These are actual phrases which people typed into google and got my site, and if this doesn’t confirm that I am going straight to hell I don’t know what is. In fact, in purgatory I know that I’ll be forced to watch every single uncut, uncensored rape scene from the whole Doji saga for a thousand years. So let’s get down to the review shall we? As per usual, it was a Friday night and I tried to make sure I was well and truly pissed before I even contemplated putting the DVD on. What was worse was that I wasn’t nearly drunk enough as I had to take notes in order for the review to make sense. That clearly didn’t work as I flicked through what I wrote and can barely make sense of them, even though I only watched the film on Friday. With this particular film, I was flying perhaps more blind than with Doji 1, as I hadn’t seen it in over seven years. The last time I did, it was very late and I fell asleep, waking up during one a particularly nasty scene which has probably scarred me for life more than anything in the first one. “But you said that the first one was the most disturbing thing ever” I hear all one of my readers cry. It is, but that’s because there’s a ridiculous amount of sexual violence in Doji 1, whereas the sexual content in Doji 2 is toned down. Not much, because it’s still there (oh boy is it still there) but there’s not a lot of it which can only be a good thing (plus it’s only two compressed episodes as to Doji 1’s three). But in the case of this film, it’s the sexual content is much more horrific in its symbolism and context but we’ll get to that in good time. Much like the last review, get a drink, blank your mind and let’s dive back into the nightmare… |
